At RGS Nordic, we receive lots of construction and demolition waste for recycling and recovery. More than 97% of the waste that we process is recycled or otherwise recovered.
Treatment takes place either at our plants or directly at the construction sites. It often makes sense to treat the soil and construction waste directly on site when this has been integrated into an overall solution (see our case on Grønttorvet) – or when the nearest treatment plant is far away.
Recycling rather than landfill, using thermal treatment of PCB contaminants
A large amount of construction waste with PCBs from secondary or tertiary contaminants is deposited as landfill today. In collaboration with a foreign partner, RGS Nordic can treat heavy, mineral construction waste using a thermal process that destroys the contents of organic contaminants (PAHs, tar, oil, PCBs, chlorinated solvents, PFAS etc. up to 1,500 ppm).
After the treatment, the construction waste is recovered in civil engineering projects and, in the case of concrete, recycled in the production of new concrete. This saves on natural resources and landfill is avoided. The solution will have a direct, positive impact on your company’s reporting of waste amounts for landfill, and be of financial benefit, as thermal treatment is cheaper than landfill.
With thermal treatment, RGS Nordic takes care of all the handling, incl. export authorisation and logistics.
We have come so far, but need to go even further
As much as possible of the waste we receive must be upcycled – i.e. processed into materials of a higher value. This is our clear ambition. We have come a long way and, for example, we have partnered with DK Beton to crush and process waste concrete into high-quality recycled concrete - see our case study on recycled concrete.
We have big ambitions for recycling and work to improve our processes every day, so that more waste can be upcycled into new quality materials.
